An Evaluation of Basic Income Models on the Economic Status of Women
Kim Hye-Youn

Abstract
Recently, more concerns are given to the ``Basic income proposals`` as a response to changes in social circumstances of welfare states. This study aims to evaluate several basic income proposals in terms of income redistribution effect and propose a women-friendly basic income proposal. Data used for this study is the 7th wave ``Korea Welfare Panel Study¡¯. Three basic income models evaluated in this study are the transitional basic income model for all citizen, child priority model, elderly priority model. The redistribution effects are measured by relative and absolute poverty ratio and income ratio among five income groups. The results show that the transitional basic income for all citizen model reduced relative poverty most effectively than other basic income models. However, this model is more effective for reducing men`s relative poverty ratio. The child priority basic income model is more effective in reducing relative poverty of women and the elderly priority basic income model is more effective in reducing absolute poverty of women. It is necessary to draw social consensus to enact a basic income model for a certain demographic group after considering limited financial resources.
